Weekly Watch Focus: Mother's Day—A Time to Honor

FRIDAY, May 8, 2020—The Bible instructs us all to honor our parents. In fact, it is the first commandment with a blessing:

Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.”
Ephesians 6:2, “‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise.”

This year, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us be thankful for our parents—specifically our mothers—and speak a blessing over them. Speak a blessing over all the mothers, both natural and spiritual, in your church and community. Take time this week to specifically communicate with your mother how she has blessed your life.

In these last few weeks, we have had opportunity to come back to family as many of us have sheltered in place at home. Many mothers have worked tirelessly under challenging circumstances. We have also had heightened awareness of honoring and caring for our elders as they are the most vulnerable to the coronavirus. Let us as watchmen and intercessors release fresh blessings on all mothers. We also ask that mothers release fresh blessings on their children and grandchildren. In the context of blessing, may this also be a season of healing broken relationships and restoration of families. Welcome the Holy Spirit, the great Comforter, to come and fill those empty places with His love, healing, and refreshing, making all things new.

Part 2: Coronavirus Recovery

We continue to pray for our nation and the nations as cities and states begin loosening restrictions and re-opening for business. We pray for a swift recovery of our economy and jobs. We pray for those who have lost jobs or businesses to have open doors of opportunity and increase. Continue to plead the blood of Jesus over your city and state, binding back the spread of the coronavirus and the power of fear. Cover our elderly and vulnerable with a shield of protection. Continue to pray for your local and national leaders as they make policy decisions to guide our nation through the pandemic and into economic recovery.

Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.”

2 Timothy 1:5 “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.”

Numbers 16:46-48, “So Moses said to Aaron, ‘Take a censer and put fire in it from the altar, put incense on it, and take it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from the Lord. The plague has begun.’ Then Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and already the plague had begun among the people. So he put in the incense and made atonement for the people. And he stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped."
